Damian Mincey joined the UMass staff as the running backs coach in December 2021. In his first season, he contributed to Ellis Merriweather's recognition as Second Team RB on Phil Steele's 2022 Postseason All-Independent Conference Team, leading to Merriweather signing with the New Orleans Saints after the NFL Draft. The 2023 season under Mincey saw significant offensive improvement, with UMass scoring 23.2 points per game, marking an 85% increase from the previous season. Running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams had a standout season, rushing for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns, becoming the second UMass player in the FBS era to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a season.

Before joining UMass, Mincey served as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at the University of Albany for four seasons. His tenure at Albany saw notable performances from players like Karl Mofor, who excelled in rushing yards per game and earned multiple All-CAA selections. Mincey's coaching experience also includes roles at Pace University, where he was a defensive coordinator, and various coaching positions at schools in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Haven and previously worked on the UMass football staff from 2006 to 2011 in different coaching capacities.
