Since taking over West Virginia State University (WVSU) football program 3 years ago, Coach Pennington has turned around a once dismal football program into a consistent winner! WVSU has had 3 consecutive winning seasons under Coach Pennington for the first time in 39 years! The Yellow Jackets also played in the conference championship game this past season and broke the school record for conference wins (7).

As the offensive coordinator, Coach Pennington has been breaking records at WVSU since he arrived in 2015. In his first season as the Offensive Coordinator, the Yellow Jackets broke the school record for points in a season and then broke the new record the following season. In 2017, the WVSU offense was #1 in country for Red Zone efficiency and #7 in the country for 3rd Down Conversion %. Both full-time starters at QB under Coach Pennington were named 1st Team All-Conference and WVSU QB's have been in the top 3 (Mountain East Conference) for passing yards and passing efficiency for 5 consecutive seasons!

In the 5 years before Coach Pennington arrived at WVSU, the team won a total of 5 games (5 - 48 Overall). Since arriving at State, the program has won 27 games in a 5-year span and has never won less than 6 games since Pennington took over as the Head Coach. This season, WVSU won 5 of its 7 games as 4th quarter come back victories.
