Drew Christ
Defensive Coordinator, Lamar University
Drew Christ was named Lamar University's defensive coordinator in January 2023, reuniting with head coach Pete Rossomando, with whom he previously worked at Central Connecticut State to build the most successful stretch in that program's history, including a Northeast Conference title and the school's first-ever NCAA FCS playoff appearance. In his first season at Lamar, Christ took over a defense that ranked near the bottom of the Southland Conference and quickly turned it around, finishing his debut season ranked second in the league in scoring and pass defense and third in total defense. By 2024, Lamar had become the second-toughest team to score on in the Southland, allowing fewer than 23 points per game.
Before Lamar, Christ spent two seasons at Boston College as a defensive assistant and special teams analyst, helping the Eagles reach the 2022 Military Bowl, and prior to that spent time on staff at Ohio State. He brings more than 20 years of coaching experience, with earlier stops at Albany, Rochester, Pennsylvania, and Swarthmore College, working primarily with defensive backs and linebackers. While at Albany, he helped lead the Great Danes to back-to-back Northeast Conference titles in 2011 and 2012, developing multiple All-NEC honorees, including two-time selection Dave Casale, who went on to play professionally in the CFL.
A former standout defensive back and kicker at the University of Chicago, Christ and his wife, Sarah, reside in Beaumont.
