Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay was a former standout linebacker at NC State, he brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. During his collegiate playing career from 2001 to 2004, he was a two-year starter and four-year letter winner, contributing significantly to the Wolfpack's nationally top-ranked defense in 2004. Notable highlights from his playing days include scoring two defensive touchdowns in a single game against UConn in 2003, earning him both ACC and national Player of the Week honors. He amassed 266 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks over his college career, and later played two seasons in the Arena Football League 2 with the Arkansas Twisters and Laredo Lobos. He graduated from NC State in 2006 with a B.A. in sociology.

Entering his 16th year in coaching and seventh at NC State, Freddie has a proven track record of developing top-tier defensive talent. At NC State, he successfully converted safety Tyler Baker-Williams into one of the team's premier cover players. Under his guidance, the 2021 NC State defense ranked second in the ACC in scoring defense and third in total defense. His previous coaching stints include remarkable achievements at Campbell, where his 2015 defense ranked fifth nationally in total defense and set multiple program records, and at NC Central, where the 2019 defense ranked 17th in the FCS in total defense.
