Jeff Simmons has been an integral part of the Carnegie Mellon football program for nearly two decades, serving in various coaching capacities. He began as the running backs and wide receivers coach, later taking on roles as the offensive special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. Throughout his tenure, Simmons has mentored standout players like Kris Hughes, who set records in touchdown receptions and receiving yards, and Tre Vasiliadis, who led the PAC in rushing yards and earned All-America honors.

One of Simmons' notable achievements was coaching Sam Benger, who became Carnegie Mellon's career rushing leader and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. Benger's accomplishments included multiple All-American selections and setting school records in rushing touchdowns and scoring. Simmons has also played a crucial role in developing other key players like placekicker Gabe Renna and wide receiver John Prather, who set records in scoring and receiving yards, respectively.

Simmons' coaching journey includes experiences at Slippery Rock University as a quarterback and coaching roles at various high schools. He is the grandson of Chuck Klausing, a College Football Hall of Famer and former Carnegie Mellon head coach, showcasing Simmons' deep-rooted connection to football coaching and leadership. Additionally, Simmons has contributed to football camps and clinics, promoting team skills and leadership development among young athletes.
