Jess Loepp
Defensive Coordinator / Safeties Coach, UTSA

Jess Loepp is in his seventh season as a member of UTSA's defensive staff and his fifth as defensive coordinator, joining the Roadrunners in 2020 as recruiting coordinator and safeties coach before being promoted to co-defensive coordinator in January 2021 and defensive coordinator in 2022. During his tenure, UTSA has enjoyed the most successful six-year stretch in program history, posting a 53-26 overall record, two conference championships, and six bowl appearances, including three straight bowl wins. He was named a Broyles Award semifinalist in 2021.

Before UTSA, Loepp built an extensive coaching résumé across multiple programs, including three separate stints at Tulsa (2003-05, 2007, 2009-14) in roles spanning graduate assistant, recruiting coordinator, and safeties coach, as well as time at Rice, SMU (defensive backs, 2015-17), and Arkansas (senior offensive analyst, 2019). He also coached at the Texas high school level, serving as an assistant at Lake Travis High School (2008) and safeties coach at Prosper High School (2018).

A native of Turpin, Oklahoma, Loepp played linebacker at the University of Central Oklahoma, earning All-Lone Star Conference honors and helping the Bronchos win conference titles in 1998 and 1999. He earned his bachelor's degree from Central Oklahoma in 2000 and a master's degree from Tulsa in 2005. He and his wife, Kelly Lynn, have two sons, Easton and Brooks.
