The Coach
J.J. Clark joined Austin Peay's staff as linebackers coach in March 2022 after three seasons as a defensive coordinator at the NAIA level. He was promoted to defensive coordinator and safeties coach in January 2023, leading the Governors to a successful 9-win campaign and an undefeated 6-0 record in United Athletic Conference (UAC) play, culminating in a UAC Championship. Clark's defense ranked third in the UAC for total defense (396.0 yards per game) and scoring defense (24.4 points per game). Notably, two of his linebackers, Tyler Long and Sam Howard, each recorded over 100 tackles and earned All-UAC First Team honors. Senior DE Hosea Knifeley Jr. and senior DBs Kory Chapman and Cedarius Doss also received All-UAC recognitions. Clark's unit was particularly adept at forcing turnovers, finishing third in the UAC with 11 interceptions and leading the conference with three defensive touchdowns.
