The Coach
Joe Kreinsen serves as the Offensive Line Coach at Merrimack College, a position he assumed in the spring of 2024.
In his inaugural season, Kreinsen's leadership contributed to the team's offensive success, with Merrimack finishing 25th nationally in rushing yards per game, averaging 192.5 yards, a school FCS record. His offensive line also ranked 22nd nationally in yards per carry at 4.9, and the team achieved a 90% red zone scoring percentage, placing 13th in the nation.
Prior to Merrimack, Kreinsen was the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator at Thomas More University in Kentucky, aiding their transition to Division II. Under his guidance, Thomas More led the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) in rushing yards and sacks allowed, with the offense ranking in the top 10 nationally for red zone scoring percentage.
In 2022, Kreinsen served as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Lake Erie College, contributing to one of the most successful seasons in the school's history. His offense set benchmarks in points and total yards per game, leading the GMAC in passing yards and ranking 10th nationally in Division II. His units broke school records, including producing the first 1,000-yard receiver, leading to multiple all-GMAC awards for players.
Kreinsen's coaching journey also includes experience at the University of Pittsburgh (2019–2020) as an offensive graduate assistant, where he worked with standout center Jimmy Morrissey, a three-time All-ACC performer and the 2020 Burlsworth Trophy recipient.
He was a four-year starter on the offensive line at Westfield State University, earning All-New England Football Conference honors as a senior. In 2014, he received the DeOrmond Tuss McLaughry Award, presented annually to the outstanding college football scholar-athlete in Western Massachusetts. Kreinsen graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Westfield State in 2014 and later earned a master's degree in labor studies from UMass.
Throughout his career, Kreinsen has been recognized for his offensive acumen, player development skills, and ability to adapt to various levels of football competition. His diverse coaching background, spanning collegiate programs and high school, has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the game, benefiting the student-athletes under his mentorship.
