Joe Matheson has been a pivotal figure for the Falcons since becoming their Offensive Coordinator in 2020, completing his third season with the team in 2021. Known for his prowess in coaching wide receivers, Matheson's tenure has seen remarkable achievements, including leading the UWRF offense to a record-breaking season and clinching the inaugural Isthmus Bowl victory, culminating in a 9-2 overall record, the highest at UWRF since 1996. His coaching prowess was evident with five Falcon offensive players earning All-WIAC recognition, with tight end Ben Beise securing AFCA First Team All-America honors, a feat not seen at UWRF since 1999. Matheson's strategic acumen was further recognized with his selection as the Hansen Ratings Region 6 Offensive Coordinator of the Year. Additionally, his work with wide receivers has left an indelible mark on the Falcon Record Books, producing standout players like Alex Herink, who earned First Team All-Conference in 2019.

Before joining UWRF, Matheson honed his coaching skills at Southwest Minnesota State from 2016-2017, focusing on tight ends within their spread tempo system. He also gained valuable experience as an offensive student assistant at the University of Minnesota under Coach Jerry Kill, witnessing the program's significant growth during his tenure. Matheson's educational background includes an undergraduate Marketing degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Southwest Minnesota State University.
