The Coach

Kris Sweet, a native of Salem, Virginia, is a seasoned football coach with extensive experience in developing offensive linemen. Sweet joined the Toronto Argonauts as the offensive line coach on January 19, 2022, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and a winning pedigree.

Sweet's coaching career spans over two decades, including a decade-long tenure in the Canadian Football League (CFL), where he made significant contributions to teams such as the Montreal Alouettes, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. His expertise was instrumental in leading the Calgary Stampeders to a Grey Cup victory in 2008, and he added a second Grey Cup ring to his collection in 2022 with the Argos.

Before joining Toronto, Sweet served as the offensive line coach at Howard University in 2021. His coaching journey also includes roles at Lyon College as the offensive coordinator, Norfolk State University as the offensive line coach, and several key positions at Presbyterian College, including offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

Sweet's career faced a significant challenge in 2019 when he was diagnosed with B-cell, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leading him to take a temporary break from coaching. However, his resilience and passion for the game brought him back to the sidelines, where he continues to mentor and develop top-tier offensive linemen.

A former player himself, Sweet was a three-year starter at center for Carson-Newman College, where he laid the foundation for his future coaching career.
