Marcus Klund is entering his ninth year with the SBU Football Coaching Staff for the 2021-22 season, currently serving as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Under his leadership, the Bearcat defense has gained a reputation as one of the top defenses in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), producing 41 All-Conference selections, including 4 All-MIAA and 37 All-GLVC performers from 2013 to 2020. Klund’s defense has also seen significant success in turnovers, sacks, and overall defensive efficiency, highlighted by standout seasons in 2015, 2016, and 2017. During these years, the Bearcats ranked highly in various defensive categories, such as turnovers created, rushing defense, third down defense, and red zone defense. In 2017, the defense scored six defensive touchdowns and led the conference in turnovers, interceptions, and tackles for loss.

Before joining SBU, Klund was the Defensive Coordinator at Lindenwood University-Belleville and spent three years coaching at Lindenwood University, his alma mater, where he also earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. During his tenure at Lindenwood, he coached defensive backs and the defensive line, contributing to a 30-6 record and a HAAC Championship in 2009. Klund also has high school coaching experience, having served as the Defensive Coordinator at Parkway West High School. As a player, he was a four-year starter and two-time All-American safety at Lindenwood, where he helped lead the team to its first undefeated regular season and a HAAC Championship in 2004.
