by IHSFCA Illinois High School Football Coaches AssociationDescription
Developing a strong running back is a viable asset to an offense. One of the best ways to develop a back is by improving their agility and power. Running backs need to have awareness, speed, and the ability to run and block as part of their game, among several other qualities. They also need to be intelligent to understand their role and know the plays. Developing a strong back is one of the smartest things a running back coach can do.
