Saj Thakkar was appointed as the seventh head football coach in Bentley University history on June 16, 2023, after being hired as the offensive coordinator earlier in the spring and later promoted to interim head coach in April. Thakkar brings extensive experience from his previous roles, including five years as the running backs coach at Harvard University, where he coached four All-Ivy players and developed Ivy League rushing champions Aidan Borguet and Aaron Shampklin. Before Harvard, Thakkar served as the offensive coordinator at SUNY Maritime, where his 2017 offense averaged 37 points per game and had ten All-ECAC honorees. He also coached at Fitchburg State University, his alma mater, and participated in the NFL Bill Walsh Fellowship in Atlanta in 2022.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Thakkar emphasized the importance of building strong connections between the staff, players, campus community, and alumni to set Bentley apart from competitors. He expressed gratitude to the Bentley administration for the opportunity and credited his family for their support throughout his career. Thakkar aims to create a model program in Division II football, with the support of Bentley's administration and passionate alumni. Thakkar holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree from Fitchburg State, where he was a three-time academic all-conference selection as a wide receiver and quarterback.
