The Coach

Sherrone Moore was announced as the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach for the University of Michigan on January 26, marking a historic moment as he becomes the 21st head football coach and the first African American to lead the Wolverines, the nation’s winningest program. Moore’s journey with Michigan began six years prior, where he significantly contributed to the offensive staff. Before stepping into the head coach role, he served as the tight ends coach (2018-2020) and later as the offensive line coach (2021-2023). During his tenure, he also took on co-offensive coordinator duties for the 2021 and 2022 Big Ten Championship seasons, eventually becoming the sole offensive coordinator in 2023. Moore's leadership was instrumental in Michigan's national championship pursuits, notably leading the team as interim head coach during the 2023 season and securing key victories that clinched the Big Ten East Division Championship.

Moore’s coaching career is distinguished by numerous accolades and significant accomplishments. Under his guidance, Michigan’s offensive line won the Joe Moore Award consecutively in 2021 and 2022, and his players consistently earned All-Big Ten and All-America honors. Notably, center Olusegun Oluwatimi received the Outland Trophy and Rimington Award in 2022. Moore's offensive units ranked highly in national metrics, including scoring offense and pass efficiency, and were top performers in rushing touchdowns and fewest turnovers. Prior to Michigan, Moore honed his coaching skills at Central Michigan and Louisville, contributing to their successes in bowl games and conference championships. A former offensive lineman at the University of Oklahoma, Moore's playing career included two Big 12 Championships and BCS bowl appearances. Off the field, he holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and is a dedicated family man, married to Kelli since 2015, with two daughters, Shiloh and Solei.
