The Coach
Spencer Carey is the Special Teams Coordinator and Cornerbacks Coach at the University of Maine, where he also serves as the Recruiting Coordinator. A former standout at Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine, Carey was a two-time All-State safety and a semifinalist for the Fitzpatrick Award. He played five seasons with the Maine Black Bears, contributing to the 2013 CAA Championship team and excelling in multiple positions, including safety, wide receiver, and outside linebacker, while being a four-year special teams starter. Carey began his coaching career at Maine Maritime Academy, mentoring an all-conference outside linebacker and the NEWMAC co-rookie of the year. He then served as Defensive Backs Coach and Video Coordinator at Bates College, followed by a role as Defensive Quality Control Coach at Harvard University. In July 2022, Carey returned to the University of Maine as the Outside Linebackers Coach, was promoted to Recruiting Coordinator in 2023, and assumed his current roles in March 2024. His diverse coaching background and dedication to player development have significantly bolstered Maine's defensive and special teams units.
