I created Strength Running in early 2010 because I knew I could help runners avoid the mistakes that nearly sidelined my own running. After finishing the 2008 New York Marathon in 2:44, I developed a severe ITB injury. I was sidelined for six months, wondering if I would ever be able to run pain-free again.
But that injury transformed my thoughts on running healthy and injury prevention. My training changed dramatically and I finally “cracked the code” of my constant injury cycle.
With my new training philosophy, I’ve only had one injury since 2009. I’ve since run more than ever and ran a 5+ minute PR at the Philadelphia Marathon in 2:39:32.
I was the overall 1st-place winner at the 2011 Moraine Hills Half Marathon, 2012 Maryland Warrior Dash, and 2013 Potomac River Run Marathon.
In addition to being a USA Track & Field certified coach, I’m the author of 101 Simple Ways to be a Better Runner and Running for Health and Happiness. Both books were #1 best-sellers in the running category on Amazon.
I also co-founded of Run Your BQ, a community of runners who want to run a faster marathon. I’m a part of the Greatist Expert Network and write regularly for publications like Competitor Magazine, Daily Burn, and Active.
I’ve been running competitively since 1998 and ran for Connecticut College, where I was a New England Qualifier and top ten finisher in the 3,000m Steeplechase. But my real love is cross country, where I was a Varsity team member for three years and received the “Most Improved” award in 2005.
