Texas A&M University-Commerce announced Joe Morales as the head coach of the Lion Volleyball program on January 19, 2023.

Morales started his tenure strong with a win over Texas Southern on August 25 in San Antonio. The Lions followed with a five-set victory at Abilene Christian and a historic upset over Alabama on September 8 in Birmingham, marking the program's first-ever win over a Power-Five and SEC opponent. The Lions added a four-set win over UAB the next day, finishing 2-1 at the Blazer Classic—their first winning record at a Division I tournament.

In conference play, the Lions secured back-to-back five-set wins over Lamar and Northwestern State, along with a key road victory at New Orleans. These performances earned the program its 12th consecutive postseason berth, the longest active streak in A&M-Commerce athletics.

Morales brings 14 years of coaching experience at the Division I, Division II, and junior college levels. Before A&M-Commerce, he was an assistant coach at McNeese in 2022, where the team went 13-5 in the Southland Conference and 18-16 overall.

In 2021, Morales was an assistant at UTSA. From 2012-2021, he coached at Texas A&M-Kingsville as the recruiting coordinator and setters coach, helping the program achieve a record seven consecutive winning seasons in the Lone Star Conference.

Earlier, Morales served as a volunteer assistant at Texas State in 2011, helping the team to a 15-1 conference record, Southland Conference titles, and an NCAA Tournament appearance. He began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Iowa Central Community College in 2009.

A San Antonio native, Morales earned his bachelor's degree in Communications from Texas State University, where he played on the men's volleyball club. He later completed a master's degree in Sports and Athletic Administration from Gonzaga University.
