The Coach

Sam Eger

Sam Eger has been the head volleyball coach at SMU since February 2022, achieving remarkable milestones in a short period. In her third season, she was named a BCA Southwest Region Coach of the Year after leading SMU to a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament with a 24-7 season record. Under her guidance, the Mustangs finished fourth in the ACC and defeated seven ranked teams, including #1 Pit and #2 Nebraska.

In 2023, she was honored as the AAC coach of the year for guiding the Mustangs to a 26-7 record and an AAC championship. Her coaching career also includes eight seasons at Baylor as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, and she began her journey at Hill College, where she led the team to a conference title. As a player, she excelled at Bowling Green State University, ranking in the top five for career assists.

On a personal note, she has three sisters who also played collegiate volleyball, and she is married with three children.
