The Coach

Missy Mitchell-Macbeth

Missy Mitchell Macbeth is a sports performance coach with over 20 years of experience in volleyball strength and conditioning. She is the author of Developmental to Division One Strength and Conditioning for the Volleyball Athlete and owns her own company, Missy Mitchell Macbeth Sports Performance, which trains coaches in strength and conditioning principles. She also offers consulting and has written a book, monetizing her knowledge.

Her professional experience includes her current role as the director of sports performance at Field House Volleyball Club in the DFW area, where she oversees the athletic development of top teams aged 11 to 18. Previously, she was the head strength and conditioning coach at Byron Nelson High School, where she developed over 500 athletes and worked with a state champion volleyball program. She also served as a senior assistant strength and conditioning coach at TCU, focusing on women’s sports, and has a background as a high school volleyball coach. She holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology and several professional certifications.

Coach Mitchell Macbeth's philosophy on strength and conditioning for female athletes debunks common myths. She believes that lifting heavy weights will not make girls bulky, but is actually necessary to offset the natural increase in fat mass that occurs during puberty and to build bone mass for long-term health. She has trained over 2,000 athletes in her career and believes that girls can handle higher volumes at a given percentage of their one-rep max. She advocates for prioritizing training for speed, agility, power, and strength, as females are already naturally set up for better endurance.
