Hitting: Clarify the Mess by Brian Meyer

Description

This course, "Hitting: Clarify the Mess" by Brian Meyer, dives deeply into the technical and mental aspects of hitting in baseball, offering players and coaches practical tools to enhance their performance at the plate. Meyer focuses on simplifying the complexities of hitting by emphasizing essential concepts such as understanding pitch recognition, controlling the strike zone, and developing situational awareness. Through real-world examples and statistics, he highlights the importance of putting the ball in play, especially in high-pressure scenarios like having runners in scoring positions with two strikes. Meyer also incorporates discussions on advanced metrics, like WRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus), to underline how small adjustments can yield significant results over time.

A major theme of the course is adaptability and player-specific coaching. Meyer stresses that no single hitting philosophy fits every player, encouraging coaches to tailor strategies based on individual skill sets and team dynamics. He provides actionable advice on creating game-like training environments, such as using mixed pitches, competitive drills, and simulated pressure to better prepare players for real games. By blending practical coaching strategies with motivational insights, the course equips participants with the knowledge to help hitters succeed in both their personal development and team contributions.
