Shawn Bell

Shawn Bell is entering his third season at Houston, having joined Willie Fritz's staff in January 2024 as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator before being promoted to assistant head coach in December 2025.

A China Spring, Texas native, Bell played quarterback at Baylor from 2003 to 2006, rewriting the school's passing record book with 28 records set, including 5,666 career yards and 38 touchdowns (both still top five in program history). Before returning to Baylor as a coach, Bell built a substantial Texas high school head coaching resume, leading Clifton (2009), Magnolia West (2010 to 2015, six seasons, all playoff appearances), and Cedar Ridge (2016), in addition to an earlier stint on his father Mark Bell's staff at China Spring. He was named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's 40 Under 40 list in 2021.

At Houston, Bell has developed back to back standout quarterback seasons, guiding Zeon Chriss-Gremillion through a strong first year in 2024, then Conner Weigman to a breakout 2025 campaign that ranked among the nation's most productive dual threat performances.

Bell and his wife, Hali, have three children: sons Cannon and Braxton, and daughter Saydi. His younger brother, Brian Bell, was promoted to Houston's wide receivers coach in December 2025, continuing a family coaching lineage that traces back to their father.
