Corey Jordan joined North Texas as cornerbacks coach in January 2026 after two seasons at UTSA, first as director of player personnel and then as safeties coach under head coach Jeff Traylor. Before UTSA, Jordan spent five seasons (2019 to 2023) as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at McKinney High School, helping build the program into a Texas state contender. He also spent four seasons (2015 to 2018) in the same role at West Mesquite High School, where he additionally served as recruiting coordinator and head track coach, helping more than 40 student athletes earn college scholarships, including future Utah defensive backs Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe. He began his coaching career at Allen High School in 2012 and 2013, where he helped the Eagles reach two state championship games.

Jordan played four seasons at cornerback for Abilene Christian (2003 to 2007), where he was an All-American and three time All-Lone Star Conference performer, starting 42 games and recording over 120 tackles and 20 passes defended. He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from Abilene Christian in 2008 and a master's in business administration from the University of Phoenix in 2011. He and his wife, Andrea, have two sons, Corey Jr. and Canaan.

Ben Black
Assistant Coach, Defensive Line, University of North Texas

Ben Black was hired as North Texas's defensive line coach in January 2025, joining the staff after three seasons in the same role at Illinois State. During his time there, the Redbirds won 28 games and reached the FCS playoffs in both 2024 and 2025, capped by a run to the 2025 FCS National Championship game that included postseason wins over the number 1, 8, 12, and 16 ranked teams in the FCS. Illinois State's defensive line helped anchor a run defense that ranked 28th nationally in the FBS. Ahead of the 2025 season, Black was selected for the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the New England Patriots.

Before Illinois State, Black worked as a defensive analyst at Auburn in 2022 and served as a defensive graduate assistant at Indiana in 2020 and 2021, helping the Hoosiers reach the Outback Bowl. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Illinois State in 2019, then returned to his alma mater, Robert Morris, where he was hired directly into a coaching role. As a player, Black started 43 consecutive games along Robert Morris's defensive line and earned all-conference honors in 2014 and 2015.
