Curt Fitzpatrick assumed the role of head coach for SUNY Cortland's football team in February 2020, marking his fourth year at the university and third season actively coaching. Under his leadership, Cortland's football program has excelled with an impressive combined record of 34-4 (.895) across two seasons, culminating in a remarkable 2023 NCAA Division III title win. Fitzpatrick's coaching prowess earned him national recognition, being named Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com, along with regional distinctions. His teams secured three Empire 8 titles, achieved remarkable regular-season records, and set multiple school records in offensive performance.

Before joining SUNY Cortland, Fitzpatrick's coaching journey included a successful tenure at Morrisville State, where he guided the Mustangs to winning seasons, conference championships, and postseason appearances. His high-powered offenses consistently ranked among the best in the Empire 8, showcasing his ability to develop players both on and off the field. Fitzpatrick's coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, academic excellence, and community engagement, contributing to the overall success of the programs he leads.
