Graham Harrell is entering his second season at Abilene Christian as associate head coach, co-offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach. The son of longtime Texas high school coach Sam Harrell, he played quarterback at Texas Tech under Mike Leach, an experience that shaped much of his coaching philosophy. He was later selected to the College Football Hall of Fame for his playing career.
He began coaching in 2009 at Oklahoma State, then reunited with Leach as wide receivers coach at Washington State. He went on to serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Texas (coaching Mason Fine), USC (developing All-Pac-12 quarterback Kedon Slovis), West Virginia, and Purdue (coaching JT Daniels). He also spent time with the Green Bay Packers, where he picked up quarterback footwork drills he still uses today, including a staggered-step technique modeled on Aaron Rodgers' mechanics.
Harrell joined ACU in 2025 under head coach Keith Patterson, bringing an "Air Raid" influence to the offense. In his first season, he coached quarterback Stone Earl and helped ACU win its first United Athletic Conference title and reach the FCS playoffs, with the Wildcats leading the UAC in third-down conversion rate and time of possession.
