The Coach
Sonny Cumbie is an American football coach and former quarterback who is currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech University. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas Tech University and was the interim head coach after the departure of Matt Wells in 2021.
He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech under Mike leach. He was promoted to wide receivers coach and eventually co-offensive coordinator in 2013. Coach Cumbie went on to TCU as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and eventually the sole offensive coordinator from 2014-2020. He returned to Texas Tech in 2021 as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and was promoted to interim head coach to finish the season. He became the head coach of Louisiana Tech in 2022.
