Jack Cooper joined the Rhode Island coaching staff as the defensive coordinator in February 2020 and is currently in his third season with the program as of 2022-23. Under Cooper's guidance, the Rams' defense made significant strides, ranking in the Top 50 nationally in several key defensive metrics in 2021. This improvement contributed to Rhode Island achieving a 7-4 record, their most wins in over two decades. Cooper's coaching prowess was highlighted by the recognition of players like Jordan Jones, who earned Associated Press All-American Second-Team honors, and others who received CAA Football All-Conference honors. Cooper's impact led to his selection as one of just five FCS assistant coaches to participate in the prestigious AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute.

Before joining Rhode Island, Cooper gained coaching experience at various levels, including serving as a defensive quality control coach at Nebraska, where he worked closely with defensive backs and contributed to strategic game planning. He also worked as a defensive graduate assistant at UCF, contributing to the Knights' significant improvement in scoring defense and national ranking in takeaways during his tenure. Cooper's coaching journey started at Salve Regina, and he later worked with Yale and Southern Connecticut State, where he also played college football and excelled as a first-team all-conference player and team captain. Cooper holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science-physical education and a master's degree in sports management, both from Southern Connecticut State University.
