Jake Spavital
Offensive Coordinator, Baylor University
Jake Spavital is in his third year as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Baylor, where he has transformed the Bears' offense into one of the nation's best. In 2025, Baylor closed the regular season on a six-game winning streak, the longest in program history, ranking among the nation's top offenses in scoring, total yards, and third-down conversion. Under Spavital's direction, quarterback Sawyer Robertson ranked fifth nationally in QB rating, running back Bryson Washington set the program's single-season rushing record, and the offensive line improved from 112th to 6th nationally in efficiency in a single year.
Spavital previously served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at California (2023, 2016) and West Virginia (2017–18, 2011–12), offensive coordinator at Texas A&M (2013–15), where he coached Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, and head coach at Texas State (2019–22). He began his coaching career at Tulsa (2008), with graduate assistant stints at Houston and Oklahoma State.
Widely regarded as one of college football's top offensive minds, Spavital has coordinated six top-20 offenses and recruited or developed numerous future NFL quarterbacks, including Kyler Murray, Johnny Manziel, Geno Smith, Case Keenum, Will Grier, and Brandon Weeden.
Spavital played quarterback and punter at Missouri State (2004–07) and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration there in 2008. He and his wife, Mehgan, a former top collegiate gymnast in West Virginia history, have two children.
