Jay Bateman is a seasoned American football coach with over 25 years of experience, currently serving as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Texas A&M University. Bateman began his coaching career at Hampden-Sydney College in 1997. He gained head coaching experience at Siena College from 2000 to 2003 before transitioning to defensive coordinator roles at institutions such as Elon University, Ball State University, and the United States Military Academy at West Point (Army). Notably, during his tenure at Army, he was a finalist for the 2018 Broyles Award, recognizing the nation's top assistant coach. Bateman also served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at the University of North Carolina from 2019 to 2021, followed by a stint as the inside linebackers coach at the University of Florida in 2022. His extensive experience and defensive acumen have significantly contributed to the development and success of the programs he has been part of.
