Jeff Choate was named co-Defensive Coordinator and Inside Linebackers Coach at Texas.

Before Texas, Choate served four season as the head coach at Montanta State. Choate led the Bobcats to back-to-back FCS playoff appearances in 2018 and 2019, including advancing to the semifinals in 2019. That was the Bobcats’ deepest postseason run since 1984, and in his final two seasons there, he led the team to a 19-9 record.

Prior to his time at Montana State, Choate spent several years coaching alongside Texas’ Defensive Coordinator and Outside Linebacker Coach Pete Kwiatkowski at both Washington and Boise State. The 28-year coaching veteran spent 16 years as an assistant coach at the college level, most recently as special teams coordinator and defensive line coach for two seasons at Washington (2014-15).

Excellent, detailed information. I appreciate the perspectives, and even how the drill work aligns to the way I progress things within the position groups that I've been responsible for coaching over the years. It was great to be reassured that I'm on the right path in terms of the way I've translated teaching in general to my teaching on the Football Field, by 'chunking' the learning process. By starting with single drills early in the teaching phase, graduating to combination drills, and then getting into 'application' drills; I feel like this gave me some tools that I could rely on for the sake of efficiency and effectiveness. I do enjoy repetition to help educate my High School players, but at times I get so deep into thinking and planning on how to best convey an intention by way of my drill work that I can't get enough packed in when the allotted time is shorter than I'd like it to be. Thanks for the Information Coach. Keep doing what You're doing.
