Mike Cummings | Offensive Line Coach | App State

Mike Cummings joined Shawn Clark's staff as the offensive line coach for the Mountaineers in January 2023, contributing to a nine-win season and a Sun Belt East Division title in his first year. Despite a starting line composed entirely of transfers, Cummings' coaching enabled the team to rank second in the Sun Belt for fewest sacks allowed and excel in both passing (273.6 yards per game) and rushing (172.0 yards per game). Under his guidance, Bucky Williams, Isaiah Helms, and Jack Murphy earned All-Sun Belt honors. Cummings' extensive coaching career spans over three decades, including roles as an offensive coordinator at Central Michigan and Connecticut, and a recent stint at Cincinnati, where he helped the Bearcats achieve a nine-win season and a Fenway Bowl appearance.

Cummings' long tenure at Central Michigan is particularly noteworthy, where he developed several All-MAC offensive linemen, including NFL standout Eric Fisher, the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. In 2021, Cummings led the Chippewas to a 9-4 record, with Bernhard Raimann and Luke Goedeke earning significant accolades and NFL Draft selections. His offensive line in 2019 facilitated a MAC-leading 6,070 total yards and two 1,000-yard rushers. Before Central Michigan, Cummings coached at VMI, where he improved their passing offense to rank eighth among FCS teams, and held positions at various other institutions including Connecticut, Marshall, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Michigan State. He holds a bachelor's degree in physical education/exercise science from Buffalo and a master's in athletic administration from Central Michigan.
