Pass Protection Drills/Teaching Progression - Ryan Clanton
by COOL Clinic
Description
In this comprehensive clinic, Coach Ryan Clanton walks through his detailed progression for teaching effective pass protection, focusing on technique, consistency, and transfer to game situations. Beginning with foundational movement drills like the Slide Board, Toe Taps, and Pad Level, Clanton layers in advanced skills such as proper striking, inside hand usage, targeting, and finish mechanics. Tools like the Rope Set Drill, Hidden Defender, and Torque Wheel are introduced to reinforce body control, awareness, and physicality.
The course then transitions into application-based concepts including backside protection responsibilities (sift/squeeze), frontside slide rules (find work), and managing twist games. Clanton rounds out the course with drill Q&A, must-hit coaching points, and extended game film breakdowns to show the teaching progression in action. Whether you're building protection fundamentals or refining advanced execution, this course provides a complete roadmap for coaching pass protection with detail and clarity.
