Under his guidance, redshirt freshman offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin earned Freshman All-American honors from College Football News. Crook's extensive coaching career spans three decades with notable positions at Cincinnati, West Virginia, Stanford, Harvard, and Illinois, and most recently at South Dakota. During his five seasons at Cincinnati (2017-21), he helped the Bearcats secure back-to-back AAC titles and become the first Group of Five team to compete in the College Football Playoff. In 2021, his offensive line boasted three All-AAC First Team members and supported an offense that set school records for touchdowns (70) and points scored (510).

Throughout his career, Crook has demonstrated expertise as an offensive line coach across various conferences, including the Pac-12, Big 12, Ivy League, and Big 10. At West Virginia (2013-16), he contributed to three consecutive bowl games and a ten-win season in 2016. His tenure at Stanford (2011-12) saw the team win a Pac-12 championship and participate in two BCS bowl games. At Harvard (2003-10), he coached eight players to first-team All-Ivy honors, and at Illinois in 2002, he worked with future NFL players Dave Diehl and Tony Pashos. Crook began his collegiate coaching career at West Liberty State and held various coaching roles at West Virginia Tech, Glenville State, and Clarion College, contributing to several playoff appearances in NCAA Division II.
