The goalkeeper is often the last line of defense and so, arguably, it is important to get them involved in training from an early age. However, coaching youth goalkeepers presents a unique set of challenges based on the physiological and developmental differences between this group and their peers. Having worked with both collegiate-level and youth teams for many years, Coach Howell provides advice on integrating younger players into team training while still maintaining the focus on the team rather than individual players. Using information from scientific data on perceptive anticipation, coaches will learn how to coach the skill of perception in training and why developing it should be a priority for developing top-performing goalkeepers.
