Head Softball Coach (Retired), St. Mary’s University

Coach Donna Fields is one of the most accomplished coaches in NCAA Division II softball history. A St. Mary’s University alumna, she led the Rattlers’ softball program for 27 seasons from 1998 to 2024, compiling an extraordinary career record of 1,076-508.

Under her leadership, St. Mary’s captured the 2002 NCAA Division II National Championship, along with 18 conference titles and four NCAA regional championships. Her teams were known for their consistency, discipline, and championship culture that became the hallmark of the program.

Before her coaching career, Fields was a standout multi-sport athlete at St. Mary’s, helping lead the Rattlers to the 1986 NAIA National Championship as a player.

Over the course of her tenure, she earned numerous Coach of the Year honors and was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame. A San Antonio native, Fields spent her entire career giving back to her alma mater, leaving behind a legacy defined by excellence, loyalty, and sustained success.
