The Coach

James Landreneau (McNeese State)

James Landreneau is in his 14th season with the McNeese State softball program and his 10th as head coach. As of April 30, 2025, he holds an outstanding career record of 335–179, including a 163–41 mark in conference play, translating to a .652 overall winning percentage, the best among active coaches in the Southland Conference.

Under Landreneau’s leadership, McNeese has won five consecutive Southland Conference regular-season titles (2021–2025) and secured five conference tournament championships. He has also earned the Southland Conference Coach of the Year award four times (2017, 2022, 2024, and 2025) and was named Louisiana Coach of the Year in 2022.

In the 2023 season, Landreneau’s program achieved a school-record 47 wins, including signature victories over ranked opponents, and his coaching staff earned NFCA South Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
