Coach Gerald Mathews has always been inspired to achieve greatness. Starting out as a star player in many sports including soccer, basketball, baseball, and eventually tennis.
Being born to a College basketball father who played for Yale University he was groomed to be a professional athlete. But it was not until he joined his high school’s tennis team that he knew he would make waves in the world of tennis.
It was shortly after this in college that Gerald met Grant Doyle, a former top 100 professional tennis player and current CEO of Advantage Doyle Tennis. It would be Doyle’s influence that would eventually inspire Gerald to seek young, passionate tennis players and help them achieve their own dreams of success. Thus Team G was born.
Gerald has only continued to cultivate and inspire up-and-coming tennis athletes. He takes a personal interest in each student to make sure they receive the most challenging and rewarding experiences that allow them to succeed. His students not only respect him as a coach, but also as someone they can trust and who keeps the game fun. Gerald’s dream is to see his pupils named Wimbledon champion.
