In this course, Mary Foster, breaks down the fundamentals of discus throwing for both beginner athletes and coaches. Mary utilizes practical demonstrations to illustrate appropriate placement, rhythm, and movement while going over important techniques including the standing throw, quarter turn, half turn, and complete throw. Achieving maximum radius, comprehending upper and lower body separation, and throwing consistently are all stressed in the course. This course offers a strong foundation in discus throwing fundamentals, whether you're a coach mentoring novice throwers or an athlete trying to improve your technique.

Lessons

The Coach

Mary Foster joins the University of Dallas track and field coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. 2020 is her first season with the program, as first-year head coach Nick Schneigert brought her on to assist with training the throwing events. 

Foster provides a background to teach technical aspects of shot put, discus, and javelin appropriate to experience. She has knowledge of USATF rules (implement, competition, venue/facility) for all throwing events, as well as physically able to demonstrate technical positions and key movements to all throws. Foster actively trains with world-renowned throws coach for continueing education and to maintain and increase skill level as both coach and athlete. 

Foster works as a volunteer throws coach with Elite Endurance Track Club in Duncanville, Texas, and most recently started as a throws instructor with Elite Explosion Throws Coaching in Desoto, Texas. A third place that Foster also helps with is in Lancaster, Texas. 

Foster was a 2019 USATF Masters Regional Champion in Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin. She notched Southland Conference All-Conference Athletic and Academic accolades from 1994-97. She was a conference medalists in shot put and discus in 1994, 96, and 97. 

Foster earned her Masters in Public Health at University of North Texas Health Science Center in May 2007. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December 1997 from University of Louisiana-Monroe
