    • Some Tips for Drops: Ball Placement and Footwork

      Ball Placement

During the drop, the football should be at armpit level. Use the rock n' roll movement to help get more depth in the drop. For this movement, the ball swings from the front armpit to the back armpit. Keep the elbows in tight and comfortable. Once completing the drop, the ball can be kept at armpit level or higher, depending upon personal preference.

      Gather Steps

There are two gather steps for the three-step drop and for the five-step drop.

From the shotgun in a dropback pass, take a three-step drop and set up. If a quarterback is throwing a quick game pattern, he does not need to take any steps. The stance in the shotgun is at a depth of five yards from center, with feet parallel and shoulder-width apart.
