Step 5 Observe pool health & safety signs and depth markings
Most unintentional drownings occur in backyard pools. Public pools are required to post their depth and other warning signs around the pool. It is wise to heed signs and know the depth of any pool or lake or beach contour before you jump in to know you can stand up. It is also wise to not feed your children food that can be aspirated and block off air passage ways before swimming.
