Lesson 9:
Drilling Shield and Countering with Partner
Practice as much as you can drilling your shield and counter attacks with a partner. The focus should be on two key points, "economy of motion" and "focusing your force of energy". All counter attacks must be delivered with two steps of action for maximum effect, but try to strip all unnecessary or wasted motion that impedes the goal. Work on staying relaxed during your setup when striking out of the shield, this will help you with precsion of your movement. Deliver a nontelegraphic strike from the shield focusing on penetrating 3-6 inches. Lastly, your recovery speed back to your shield is critical. This is part of focusing the force. You must be accurate and in control of your landing and recovery phases of each strike to minimize your openings to getting counter yourself.
