What is a Dribble Drive Read?
The dribble drive motion is a strategy used in basketball to create spacing and ultimately to find an open player for an easy basket. Created by Vance Walberg in the late 90’s, many teams have picked up the tactic and incorporated it into their own. It's a guard oriented offense. Offenses spread offensive players across the half court, making it more difficult for defensive players to help with dribble penetration or skips. When a defender helps, an offensive player is left open without any defenders around him.
There are many advantages to the dribble drive read. A high points per possession average can be achieved by teams who have implemented this offense effectively. If run correctly, this offense produces a lot of layups and open three-point shots, both of which are high percentage shots.
Jessica Mannetti has used this strategy with great success. With her leadership and implementation of this style of play, her team has become one of the top programs in the Northeast Conference. Learn how to use this strategy and take your offense to the next level.
