Power Read with Variations and Play Actions from Multiple Sets: Tom Lombardo
The Power Read is not a new concept. It has become a staple in offenses that utilize and athletic quarterback to stress the defense in multiple ways. The Power Read gives a play that stretches a defense horizontally and puts a defender in conflict with a decision by the quarterback to pull or keep.
It would seem that this play could be utilized by any team running power because the blocking scheme is already installed. This course points out the pitfalls in that thinking by making distinctions between the traditional power concept and the power read concept.
Through trial and error as well as extensive film study, Coach Grabowski has identified key coaching points in making the play successful as well as the different scenarios for which an offense must prepare.
The basics of power read are outlined along with trouble shooting the various defensive answers. The course includes chapters on utilizing play action off of Power Read to further stress a defense.
During this course Coach Lombardo goes over:
1. Power Read Variations
2. Play-Action and Backfield Concepts
3. Counter Plays
