Lessons

The Coach

Rick Dunn has over 25 years of experience as an educator, classroom teacher and a coach. He dedicated his career to both teaching and coaching at various levels. He has taught government, economics, and geography while coaching high school and collegiate men's basketball, women's golf, cross country, and track and field. His coaching path took a turn when a mentor encouraged him to step into track and field. Over a decade later, he came to appreciate the deep connection between performance and mental health realizing that coaching is just as much about listening as it is about training.

His understanding of mental health in sports became even more personal while supporting his daughter through the challenges of being a student-athlete. This experience, along with years of coaching, led him to pursue a counseling degree to better support young athletes. Now, he focuses on helping coaches recognize the mental health struggles their athletes face, how it impacts performance, and how to offer the right support.
