The Coach

Katy Snell is the Head Softball Coach at Johnson High School in Buda, Texas, where she has quickly built one of the state’s most respected young programs. An educator for 17 years and a head coach for 14, Coach Snell is known for her ability to blend competitive excellence with authentic leadership and program-building vision.

Originally from Orange, Texas, Snell began her career after graduating from Texas State University, taking an assistant coaching role in Lockhart before moving into head coaching. In Lockhart, she helped guide her team to eight consecutive playoff appearances, three district championships, and three regional quarterfinal runs — setting a foundation of consistency and competitiveness that has defined her career.

In 2019, Snell was chosen to open Buda Johnson High School and lead its first-ever softball program. Under her leadership, the Jaguars have been a playoff team every year since their inaugural varsity season in 2021. In that short span, Johnson has already captured two district titles and made a deep run to the 6A Division I regional finals — remarkable achievements for a program still in its infancy.

Coach Snell is admired for her meticulous approach to player development, including data-driven tryouts, measurable skill testing, structured off-season strength and conditioning, and advanced defensive systems. Just as importantly, she is committed to building team culture and leadership, guiding her athletes through team bonding, community service, and character development initiatives that shape them as people first, players second.

With a reputation for turning new programs into perennial contenders, Katy Snell has become a respected voice in Texas high school softball — a coach who builds not just winning teams, but strong, confident young women prepared for success on and off the field.
