The Champion`s Mindset: The Elite Paradox - Dr. Keino Miller (UNLV)

This presentation challenges the common assumption that an "elite mindset" is solely a product of selection or innate talent. Instead, we propose that the true championship mindset is deliberately forged in a "Crucible"—a programmatic, high-pressure system designed to cultivate the "High Octane Brain." We move beyond the "Myth of Elite" to define a mindset framework based on three pillars: Systemic Indoctrination, Optimal Arousal Training (Arousal-Performance Curve), and strategic exposure to the "Panic Zone." Using successful case studies (including the UNLV Softball program), we will demonstrate how delegating high-stakes decision-making (autonomy) under duress converts reactive players (”Marshmallows") into proactive, critical-thinking leaders (”Martians").
