Training and Drills to Connect both High School Hurdle Events

This video doubles as both a tool to help pick out potential hurdle talent and work through drills to maximize athletes' natural abilities.  Designed for the high school coach in mind, but the drills will benefit all age groups.  Our hurdling philosophy is to keep it simple, always be sprinting, and focus on developing both legs.  This presentation was created and filmed with head coach Eric Jubeck of Monroe High School and Monroe's hurdles coach Tyler Witt.  Originally created as a presentation for the 2021 Wisconsin Track & Field Coaches Association (WISTCA) Clinic.  

We start by discussing how to build a successful track & field and hurdle program and end with 30+ minutes of drills beginning with warm-ups / mobility and work our way through 100/110 and 300 hurdle drills.  We use high school athletes (boys and girls) that look like high school athletes to walk through each and every drill that we have used to coach 10 different hurdle athletes to state a total of 23 times with 10 podium finishes over the past 9 seasons for 2 programs.

Coach Eric Jubeck has been the Monroe Girls Head Track & Field Coach for 3 seasons and his team is the 3-time defending regional champions. Coach Jubeck is a 3rd generation track and field coach for Monroe High School, taking over shortly after his father Howie Jubeck's retirement from coaching for over 30 years.  During Eric Jubeck's tenure, Monroe has finished in the top half of the conference as the smallest school in the famed Badger South Conference, and last season were runners-up to Watertown High School. 

Before returning to Monroe to coach, Coach Jubeck had a 5 year run as sprint and hurdle coach at Beloit Memorial High School.  During this time, Beloit was back-to-back regional and sectional champions and finished in the top 3 in the Big 8 conference 3 years in a row.  During this time, Coach Jubeck helped hurdlers finish in 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th place at the WIAA division 1 state championship meet.
