A Coach has sent you a questionnaire - what does this mean?

By sending you a questionnaire - the school is starting the recruiting process by collecting interest and information. Until they can review you play or watch some film, they are collecting data of potential prospects that may be interested.

This does not mean you will be receiving a scholarship. When a coach sends out letters or otherwise, they have heard something about you. Contact from coaches are an early stage of interest. If they are calling you and coming to view you play, they are interested and even better signs they are considering you.

If you are not interested! Respond as such. Keep your inbox clutter free and focused on your goals.

When a school does contact you that is not on your research list - it's easy to fall into the trap and be influenced by an aggressive school trying to get you to commit.

In all the excitement, it is easy to lose focus on what is important. This is why we suggest you stick to your values of what's important to you. Anytime a school shows interest - refer back to your values you identified and confirm if it could be a good fit.

Communications

University representatives should only make contact with a prospective student athlete at times away from the in-season competition times, i.e. after games or at the conclusion of events, matches or tournaments.

During your recruiting period you are allowed to communicate with any USport member school as often as you like unless you have signed a letter of intent in which you must inform any other schools you have done so and all communication with other schools should stop.

If you have informed the coach regarding a signed LOI and you are contacted by them again, contact the school’s Athletic Director of where you signed the LOI within 48hrs of this happening.

Communication with a prospective student-athlete can include: in person, telephone, mail, email, text, social media or other correspondence.

A school has contacted me that I know I am not interested in. What should I do?

If you are contacted by a coach of a program where you don't have an interest in, the polite thing to do is be honest and reply as such. Thank the coach for the interest but let them know that you are not interested and thus they can spend their time in other areas. Remember - this coach could be friends with the coach at your "ideal" school. Ensure you don't burn any bridges.
