Campus visits can be expensive so let us help you in determining where to spend the money to allow you to make an informed decision and maximize your dollar.

Visiting college campuses is a big part of the college selection process.

The visits don’t necessarily have to be colleges on your child’s list. Early in the process, your child’s freshman year, you just want them to get a feel for the different environments that are available/accessible.

Providing yourself with as many experiences as possible is key here so when they are ready to narrow down their list, they have some perspective about what suits them best.

Of course, getting onto the college campus of one of the schools on their list is important too. You will most likely narrow down the list a bit when you do. At the end of the day, the question needs to be: If you got hurt your freshman year and wouldn’t be able to play soccer again, would you want to go to school there?

If the answer is “No”, cross it off the list.

With that in mind, don’t make the visit all about the soccer program.

Reach out to the coach to let them know you will be visiting and ask if there is an opportunity to meet them and see some of the facilities (college coaches are used to this type of request).

If you’re going to take a tour of the school – I’d encourage you to do it via the Admissions department instead of with the coach. Take a second tour with the coach, but be sure you are evaluating and getting a feel for the school outside the athletic department and coaches’ perspective. Plus a tour with the Admissions department will generally provide a lot more and different detail than a tour with the coach.
