Verbal Commitment: a University-bound student athletes commitment to a school before they sign (or are able to sign) a Letter of Intent.
A University bound student athlete can announce a verbal commitment at any time in the process.
Any verbal commitment announced or otherwise is not binding on the prospective student-athlete or the institution.
Only signing the Letter of Intent is binding with both parties.
There is nothing wrong with saying should you not be ready to commit before signing -
"I'm keeping my options open and looking into every opportunity. I'm just enjoying the process"
