Let's debate the pros and cons of ID camps vs Showcase Events.....
ID CAMPS
- Player driven - you decide where you want to attend.
- They are usually directly in-front of the coaches; you should have the ability to ask questions + interact
- Less players than showcase events - often times more for development experience and program revenue
- Coach should have invited you! (your investment/time is strictly for that one school)
- You are taking the initiative to get the coaches attention
SHOWCASE TOURNAMENTS
- Team driven/selected by others; Questions: you may be spending money on schools you're not interested in?
- Limited time on the field; short matches
- Large amounts of teams/players for coaches to view - typically coaches identify and view only specific players that are on their radar list.
- Universities often receive player contact booklet - did you submit your full contact info!! If not, missed opportunity!
- Greater number of coaches watching - are all the coaches listed for the event actually in attendance?? Often not, unfortunately!
- You are asking the coach to do the majority of the work and identify you
- If no prep work prior with coaches leading into the event - you’re rolling the dice; too many players to find you.

Considerations when looking to attend:
- Set your budget first (and be selfish!)
- Be selective and strategic for cost savings
- What is the best time of year to go? Are there any school restrictions?
- Identify if the camp is a recruiting camp or instructional/developmental
- Identify camps at schools where you have an interest in studying
- Identify events where multiple coaches will be in attendance, if possible.
- Identify events where coaches from your listed schools will be in attendance
- Be sure to contact them well in advance so they can plan accordingly.
